Lauren

Lauren Mary Korkis was born on November 6th, 2000. She was born to the parents of Karim and Hala Korkis. She has two older sisters, Bianca and Raiven; and she has one little sister named Angelique. From the day she was born, she has continually brought joy to her family's lives, and changed their lives for the better. When Lauren was around six months old, her family noticed no progress in her motor skills and she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Six months later, she had her first seizure and was prescribed with medications for treatment. Shortly after this, Lauren began therapy at the Early-On program at MISD. Her mom put her on the waiting list for therapy at Beaumont Hospital. When Lauren was a year and a half she began Physical, Occupation and later on, Speech Therapy at Beaumont. Lauren definitely showed from early on that she was a fighter and could handle a lot for a child her age. When she was three years old, Lauren began going to school for half-days at Plumbrook Elementary. Here she got to experience a school setting, interacting with a teacher and other students five days a week. That same year she began Conductive Education. She needed some time to adjust, but after three years of being with CECMD Lauren loves coming to Conductive Ed, or "Summer Camp" as she likes to call it. She has made so much wonderful progress over the past two and a half years; and we are all extremely proud of her. If she continues to try her hardest and believe in herself she will definitely achieve the greatest of goals she could ever set for herself.
